Colleformica
Lazio—Italy

The region of Lazio (Latium in Latin) is located in central Italy, and home to Rome. It has all the natural resources suited to viticulture: the cooling breeze from the Mediterranean, the influence of the Apennine Mountains to the east, adequate rainfall, rich volcanic soils and an abundance of sunshine.

Over the past 15 years there has been a plethora of producers coming to the area as well as a younger generation giving life to family estates.
Their focus has been on sustainable and organic farming, winemaking without inputs and respecting the regions autonomous varieties.

The Bombetti family have been farming their 3 hectares of land for over 100 years. Colleformica is located 40km south east of Rome in the Castelli Romani area in the village of Velletri. Sergio Bombetti learnt from his father the principles of wine making when he was younger, as is the traditional way, passing down from generation to generation. Working along side him is his son Paolo.

Until 2018, when Colleformica was established, the grapes were sold and the small amount of wine they produced was only for the family table. The land has always been lovingly cared for, never sprayed and always farmed in an organic way. Two hectares is under vine, the remaining hectare a mix of olive and fruit trees, and vegetables for the family.

There are two white varietals under vine, Malvasia and Trebbiano which are approximately 40 years of age. The only red variety being Sangiovese from younger vines. The soils are volcanic with clay and the vineyards are located at 300 meters altitude on gentle slopes.

A natural wine producer at the beginning of their journey and one to watch, the current release wines from this young estate are brimming with life.
